According to Wikipedia, "Gun violence in the United States results in tens of thousands of deaths and injuries annually. In 2013, there were 73,505 nonfatal firearm injuries and 33,636 deaths due to "injury by firearms". These deaths consisted of 11,208 homicides, 21,175 suicides, 505 deaths due to accidental or negligent discharge of a firearm, and 281 deaths due to firearms use with "undetermined intent"."
The ownership and control of guns are among the most widely debated issues in the country.
Since 1968, more than 1.5 million Americans have died in gun-related incidents, according to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. By comparison, approximately 1.2 million service members have been killed in every war in U.S. history (12 wars), according to estimates from the Department of Veterans Affairs and Casualties.org.
Mass shootings by American terrorists and lone wolves who are mentally demented; plus, the predominant number of homicides with guns in the United States from low income young adult male populations, many times minorities, who are victims of poverty, gang violence, unemployment and drugs, all must be directly addressed.
There is also a mind set in poor areas of the inner cities of America that one has to carry arms to survive; and the psychological need of poor youth for having control of one's life, when there is little hope or opportunity for a quality of life in their future.
Thus, we need to take the following RADICAL steps to make America safe again:
A. Regarding weapons:
1) Ban assault style rifles and semi-automatic weapons
2) Require universal registration checks of all guns via on-line, in stores and at gun shows.
3) Limit number and type of weapons owned per family (except for gun collectors)
4) Ban large capacity magazines; limit of 10 bullets per magazine.
5) Prohibit storage of guns in homes and commercial establishments.
6) Establish gun storage locations for nearby individual access; electronically lined to record date and time; plus monitoring to alert authorities when rules or limitations are violated.
B. Regarding stopping violence from American terrorists, lone wolves and poor youths:
Alter the economic system from capitalism to a socialist program and order: include guaranteed jobs, income and housing; nationalize comprehensive medical and mental health care; and increase educational institutions, facilities, teachers and support staff.
Furthermore, nationalize the country's financial system and transfer policy control to citizen and employees in communities and companies.
The only way to actually stop such catastrophic violence and mayhem in our country is take the above radical action. Nothing less will solve our gun and violence problems.
