Brian has played baseball all his life as a left-handed first basemen--little league, high school, American Legion, college, sandlot, semi-pro.

Brian has played in an Oakland, CA youth police league at age 10. Hall-of-fame player Joe Morgan played for an opposing team in the same league at that time. Brian also played on the same little league team in Oakland, named Chapel of the Oaks, with teammate Aaron Pointer, future major-leaguer for the Houston Comets (now Astros). Pointer is the last professional baseball player with a batting average over .400 (1961, Independent League). Aaron hit .402 during the 1961 season while playing for the Salisbury Braves in the Class-D Western Carolinas League, which was a part of affiliated Minor League Baseball. Pointer is considered the last player to bat over .400 for a single full season. He accomplished this with 157 hits in 390 at-bats in 1961.

While in high school, Brian played or batted against future major leaguers Bob Oliver, Highlands HS in Sacramento, Ca suburbs (Pittsburg Pirates); Tug McGraw, St. Vincent Ferrer HS, Vallejo, CA (Mets and Phillies) and Bob Garibaldi, Lodi, CA HS (SF Giants).

Brian was coached by two former professional baseball players with minor league experience: Bill Cox, pitcher, Brooklyn Dodger organization coached Brian in grammar school at St. Elizabeth's school in Oakland; and Ronnie King, catcher in the Cleveland Indians organization, coached Brian during his American Legion baseball team play in Sacramento, CA (Southside Legion). Ronnie was awarded West Coast Major League Baseball Scout in 1998 while with the Los Angeles Dodger organization. Ronnie signed Steve Sacks of the Dodgers.

Brian also played many years of sandlot baseball until 2021 for various Florida amateur teams in Citrus, Hernando, Pasco and Pinellas counties.

Brian also played on a semi-professional baseball team in Panama City, Republic of Panama, while also working there as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer from 1969 to 1971. The team he played for was named Altimirano Duque.

Brian then played in a Japanese baseball sandlot league, Club Union, in Lima, Peru from 1971 to 1972,
