Brian's photo is of his replica baseball jersey of Cuban teams and leagues dating back to 1923. Major league baseball players used to travel to Cuba during the U.S. winter months to play in tropical hot weather there. Plus, many accomplished baseball teams from Cuba used to travel to New York, Ohio and throughout America to play American teams as well.
While the above photo conveys an image of sports, it also demonstrates the long historical and positive ties the United States of America has had with the tropical island of Cuba and its people. And it shows how conservative right wing politics and American's fear of communism has distorted its unnecessary fears of a nearby island 90 miles away. The Cuban revolution of 1959 under Fidel Castro was instigated in protest of Cuba's nationwide condition of poverty imposed on the island by American businessmen for selfish economic and profit motives.

U.S. business dominance in Cuba created an "unequal economy". A small, wealthy elite class and American businesses thrived, while nearly half of the rural population suffered from undernourishment and a lack of access to basic education or regular work. This deep inequality fueled the discontent that led to the 1959 Cuban Revolution.
